UHCA-002 | From Understanding the Theory to Developing Practical Skills
This programme provides structured theoretical learning, practical demonstration and simulation-based assessment in venepuncture and clinical skills.
Develop foundation knowledge and simulated practical skills in venepuncture, including patient identification, consent, infection prevention, equipment, sharps safety, specimen handling and structured assessment.
Practical healthcare training designed to build knowledge, confidence and workplace readiness through structured theory, demonstration and simulation-based learning.
The programme is designed to develop participants’ knowledge, practical understanding and confidence while promoting safe practice, infection prevention, patient-centred care .

What you will Learn
- Explain relevant venous anatomy and identify commonly used sites for venepuncture.
- Demonstrate appropriate patient identification, communication, consent and professional boundaries.
- Prepare equipment and the clinical environment using appropriate infection-prevention and sharps-safety principles.
- Demonstrate the approved venepuncture sequence using a training arm/manikin, including specimen labelling and simulated aftercare.
- Recognise common complications associated with venepuncture and understand when to stop and escalate concerns.
- Demonstrate appropriate specimen identification, labelling, contamination prevention, handling and transport principles.
- Prepare a person for a 12-lead ECG, identify standard electrode positions and obtain a technically acceptable simulated recording.
- Demonstrate simulated capillary blood-glucose monitoring and urinalysis, including appropriate documentation and escalation.
- Understand the distinction between successful completion of training and employer/workplace competency assessment and authorisation.
